From 2001 to 2008, TechWriter's core business was building and maintaining websites for small to medium businesses and non-profit organisations.

We now have a full client portfolio and are not taking on any new clients for website design or revamps, although we are still available for website audit and web consulting contracts with any new clients.

This page (and the majority of this website) has as its primary purpose the provision of information and advice to people who already own websites, or who are planning to get one built for them. Just browse the pages and hopefully you will find heaps of information that will be of help. The provision of this information should not be seen as aiming to attract new clients.

On-going updates and site maintenance for existing clients

We maintain and update our customer websites on a standard time-spent basis. There is no minimum charge. We run a "bar tab" charging system, so those little $5 - $15 jobs are accumulated and an account sent when the tab reaches an agreed amount, such as $50.

For customer information, our typical charges (if clear instructions and ready-to-publish material are provided) include:

  • Simple changes of some text with no change of page formatting - $5 to $10.
  • Adding a few extra photos without affecting page formats - $5 to $20.
  • Adding extra pages but within the same basic site design framework - $50 to $80 per page, depending on how inter-page links are affected.

Our service goal - almost always achieved - is to fulfill all small update requests within two working days, and larger tasks (such as added pages, large numbers of added products, or tasks involving new design ideas) are normally achieved within three working days. At certain times of the year, our need to take holidays may mean immediate updates are not possible, but we provide clients with plenteous advance notification of these few occasions.
